Teatro Colón and La Estancia

As the eve of our departure was dawning upon us we embarked on our last week in Argentina. We began the week visiting "el teatro Colon", a historic theatre and opera house where the likes of Mozart, Bellini and Beethoven performed and were honored at. Unfortunately due to scheduling issues we couldn't take a tour at "palacio Barolo", and so we decided to revisit the renowned monument later in the week. We cut our losses by dining at "Mostaza", a fast food joint which we have been getting bombarded with ad's about. To end the day we met up with our host brothers and took a five minute walk to Mallinkrodt the sister school of Colegio del Salvador. We conversed with the fourth years (juniors) about our experiences during our stay in Argentina, some of the cultural similarities and differences and helped them practice their English. We then went on a tour of the school and after eating some "alfajores" and drinking some "mate" we went home for the day exhausted by walking on foot for so long.

Tuesday we started the day joining some of the underclassmen in their English public speaking class. They gave presentations about their interests which ranged from sports injuries to the benefits of globalization. We then had a "merienda" (small snack in between breakfast and lunch) and went to la Estancia Santa Susana. After a 1 hour bus ride we arrived in the land of the "Gauchos" (Argentine cowboys). Together with other tourists from Mexico and the United States we took a ride on a carriage that took us around to see the property and the horses. Before lunch began we were given free time so we played a game of two hand touch football on the flat and expansive grass. We were called to lunch by bell and enjoined yet another asado that was just as if not more delicious then the ones we have had before. At the end of our lunch the Gauchos played traditional music and invited professional dancers to show us Tango and Chamamé. After plenty of songs and dances the gauchos took us outside and performed some horseback riding tricks before our departure back to the school. We reunited with our brothers made our way home as the time we have with them sadly slowly runs out.
